(Session began on August 11)
Almost 4 weeks have passed since the group recovered The Niranjana Manuscript. Teri (under the alias of Snowcone), has her artwork on display at the Museum of Modern Art. Attending the gala opening were many of Teri’s friends and associates, including those who joined her in the efforts to defeatThe Master
and Adrika Niranjana
, as well as the current group. Doug arrived accompanied by Rachel Harris. Telloria was accompanied by Joe Stanton
, Noonien brought Miranda Walker
, Alex brought Noel Howe
, and Teri was accompanied by Dragonfly, while the others came on their own. Lady Ariel
, The Leanansidhe
, Lady Annona
, and Lady Lyla
were also in attendance.
The various characters felt compelled to go (without their dates) into one gallery which ironically displayed all Winter related art work – A picture of Lea, Snowfall in Central Park, a sketch of Drucillia, and an abstract of Arctis Tor. As the group looked around, they each felt an itch on their left hand as Lea entered the room. She greeted everyone and said she would like to introduce them to someone. The abstract of Arctis Tor shimmered and Queen Mab appeared. Lea introduced Mab, told the group that Mab now owned their debts to her, and was dismissed. Mab informed the group that Ellistrae
, the Hand of Winter, was dead and someone had stolen the mantle of power. She suspected that The Adversary was involved as well as a magic that originated from Shadow (that the group suspects to be Fel Magic). Noonien recalled the name of Ellistrae, as a friend of his drow associate, Cymrial.
Mab then nodded at everyone, the Abstract of Artics Tor shimmered, and she vanished, leaving the group alone in the gallery. Paul departed to go to the NYPD
to recover the police report on Ellistrae’s murder, arranging to meet with the others at Midnight at the Shop Around The corner
. Noonien ended the evening, telling Miranda that Winter had called in his favor (she offered assistance if he needed it). Telloria spent another 2 hours with Joe, then ended the evening. Janice left and retrieved her bulletproof vest and relaxed at home. Doug hung around for a tad, then took Rachel home explaining he had business. Teri remained at the Opening, socializing as best she could. Alex returned Noel to her home, then went to The Lair
to request a lighter bulletproof vest, then recovered his magical doodads, then did some meditation to prepare.
Midnight rolled around, and the group met up at The Shop Around the Corner. Kathleen being asleep, her husband had the jukebox playing the Australian Country Western he so loves. The Shop was fairly empty, only 3 other people present. Taking a table, Paul tossed the police report onto the table, but before he could share the information, Janice asked “What is a Hand of Winter?” And Teri explained the history and what they were. Telloria asked about the Summer and Winter Knights and Teri explained that as well.
The police report detailed the murder of one “Elise Traevaelin” (Ellistrae), whose body was discovered in an alleyway off of Times Square
. The body showed a single stab wound, assumed to be by a knife with a strange curvature to it (A Kris Knife). The victims hair was also sliced off at the neck by the same weapon. There were two killers as evidence of two sets of hands holding the victim down were found. Witnesses saw two women leaving the alleyway, though security cameras throughout Times Square failed. Witnesses were several tourists, and Selena, the new owner of the Hot Dog Stand formerly owned by Britney. The two women were described as both about 5’6 or so, good looking, one her hair dark black in dreadlocks wearing tight shorts, sneakers, and a cutoff t-shirt, while the other waist length blonde haired, wearing tight jeans, Sneakers, and t-shirt. Crime scene photos showed no self defense wounds, the victim evidently taken by surprise.Teri was baffled by these descriptions as they matched those of Maeve
, the deceased Winter and Summer Ladies. Doug pointed out one of the witnesses was Selina, The Prophet, and that she usually sees things for what they really are. Alex pointed out that Times Square is littered with Ley Lines, and that he could tap into a Ley Line to block Mab’s sight. The Report said the murder occurred at 8PM on the 8th, was still being investigated by the NYPD
Homicide Division, assigned to detectives Lenny Briscoe
and Reynaldo Curtis
, and that descriptions of the two suspects have been shared throughout the NYPD
Alex was fairly certain the knife was integral to some ritual used for the killing. Telloria pointed out that Kris are both a weapon and spiritual object, often considered to have an essence or presence, considered to possess magical powers, with some blades possessing good luck and others possessing bad. Kris are used for display, as talismans with magical powers, weapons, a sanctified heirloom, auxiliary equipment for court soldiers, an accessory for ceremonial dress, an indicator of social status, a symbol of heroism, etc. Janice shared knowledge that in the past, The Fomor used such weapons. Teri pointed out that the Fae did originally cause the first Fomor
to retreat beneath the waves.
Telloria went to go finish up some work at her lab, Doug returned home to meditate on the situation, and Noonien went to The City Beneath The City
to speak to Cymrial, while Janice, Teri, Paul, and Alex went to Times Square.
Arriving in Times Square, the group did see a NYPD
Squad car with the engine running, two cops inside, locked in conversation. The stores around Times Square were closed as was Selena’s Hot Dog Stand. As the group looked along, Teri recognized officer Dave Jones from her days in the DA’s Office. She went to talk to him claiming to be out for a midnight stroll. She then introduced herself to Dave’s partner and used her breath weapon to put them both to sleep, after Alex hexed the car’s dash cam.
Avoiding the Crime Scene Tape, the four entered the alley, a sense of cold wishing over each of them. Janice grew terrified of the alleyway to the point she peed her pants and left, standing by the squad car, not wanting to approach any closer. Examining the scene, Alex discovered a plain silver ring and picked it up with a handkerchief. Teri recognized the ring as Ellistrae’s Signet Ring, however the signet itself was missing. Alex then opened his Sight.
He first heard the screams of all those slain in the alleyway, from the victims of The Master to the girl killed by the Bloodtaker. He then saw Ellistrae enter, then it all went silent and dark, until he then saw Ellistrae’s body, the ring rolling from her finger to where he found it. Maeve then used an extremely white and clean cloth to clean the blade (the cloth not being stained by the blood), then she handed the blade to Aurora who cut the hair off of Ellistrae. Standing at the end of the alleyway was a shadowy image of Illidan Stormrage
(in his true form) and a female “Cobra Commander” (Military uniform and steel faceplated helmet) standing behind the two former Ladies. He then closed his Sight. Before leaving the Alleyway, Alex scraped a sample of Ellistrae’s blood from the ground.
Meanwhile, Noonien went to see Cymrial, calling ahead to let her know he needed to see her. He was stopped on his way by the outer scouts of the drow enclave. Taken before Cymrial, he told her of Ellistrae’s death and the loss of her power, facts which seemed to frighten the drow. He learned that a week ago, Ellistrae had been pursuing two members of The Fomor, which they assisted the Hand of Winter with eliminating. He then took his leave, with her saying “The Spider Queen’s Blessing be upon you”
The group met up at 6AM at The Shop Around the Corner. Alex sensed something different about Noonien. Sitting down with coffee, Alex reiterated what he saw in the alleyway. Telloria confirmed that the shadow figure resembled Illidan’s true form. Telloria confirmed that Illidan could absorb the power of Demons form Azeroth, and Alex pointed out that The Master
‘s Necromantic spells for stealing power from others. Alex also pointed out that Illidan probably could not use Kemmler’s Magic, but that Alice Anguis, The Created from the Prophecy, his partner/ally/lover, perhaps could. Teri pointed out that Fealty to Mab is an integral part of the Mantle of Power and that the power could not be siphoned off. Teri did recall that prior to her death, Maeve’s ‘gift’ from The Adversary allowed her to remain Lady Winter but lie and remove the fealty to Mab that was integral to her Mantle as Lady Winter.
As the group discussed, Lady Lyla
entered the shop on the overwhelming smell of Spring Flowers. She came up and asked to join the group. Sitting down she offered to give the group extensive intelligence on events in Summer in exchange for allowing her associate, a dewdrop fairy, to accompany the group, provide assistance if requested, and report back to Lyla. The group briefly discussed this to decide what to do while Lyla retrieved some coffee. Teri saw a translucent aura of a hooded cloak of fallen leaves draped over Lyla’s head and back. After retrieving some coffee, she returned to the table.
Lyla then asked if the group had an agreement, and Noonien placed a caveat that the Dewdrop fairy, identified by Lyla as Silvermist
, was required to remain an observer and only render assistance should the group and not one individual, desire her assistance, with Telloria designated as the one that Silvermist will always follow. An accord was then reached.
Lyla revealed that Shayleigh
, the Summer Hand, was also deceased, Titania also losing the mantle and hiding such a fact from Winter. She also revealed that both Courts with their Queens, were present in New York. And finally, Lyla revealed that Arcabiel, the Fallen archangel of the Zodiac and Prophecy was involved. She also revealed that should Winter and Summer go to war, Spring and Autumn would be forced to choose sides and become involved as well.
