As the group recovered from their brief battle, Telloria examined the unconscious humans while Janice searched the burning buildings for enemies, finding several dead humans. The unconscious humans (two men, two women, and two children – a boy and a girl) had gashes on their head form injuries inflicted by a blunt weapon. Medical attention was provided to the unconscious humans. Alex used his magic to extinguish the fires.
As the humans regained consciousness, the women began crying about their homes and loved ones, while the young girl wandered towards one of the buildings, calling out for her parents. Janice comforted the girl, and the group questioned them regarding the Horny Horses and Eyebeast. They knew nothing of these, but did say the orcs came from the east. The nearest town was the one that was destroyed, and they knew nothing of the lands to the east, calling it The Realm. The peasants then gathered what they could and departed west for Hopewell.
The group continued east, following the road, Telloria stealthing ahead as a cat, with Alex being Airborne scout, seeing devastated land all around no several clouds of dust he attributed to armies on the horizon. Doug proposed threading the needle between the approaching armies, which caused Alex to exclaim, “Did the Angel of War just propose avoiding an army? You’re a really lame Angel of War”.
Several hours of travel along the road the group began their veering off towards the South east. Coming upon a ruined Inn, Telloria avoided falling in a sinkhole that revealed a series of caves and tunnels. Telloria went back and told the group about the caves.
The group continued on to the southeast, leaving the caves behind them. Traveling along several hours later, Telloria spotted several large humanoids with loincloths and clubs, making their way towards the group. The group took cover to hide while Alex manipulated the air around them to veil the group. The hill giant patrol passed by, not noticing the group. The group continued on, eventually hearing
coming from the distance. The group easily avoided the nearby army thanks to the music. Another hour or so of travel and Alex and Teri (now also flying) spotted a green valley with a waterfall, trees, grass, several cave openings, and Teri spotted a herd of Unicorns (all white with golden manes, except for the one that seemed to be the leader, which was all black with a white mane). Alex returned to let the group know as Teri flew closer to the edge of the valley. Teri landed then called out to the Unicorns,“Hello, may I speak with you?”. The herd stopped, the black unicorn looking around, then continuing on. Telloria arrived just as the herd continued on.
The rest arriving, they saw the herd run along the river to the waterfall, passing behind it, and vanishing. Alex then the rest entered the valley. Taking shelter in a copse of trees near the river, the group made camp.
As the group rested, Noonien heard a bleating noise to his right, just beyond the trees. Teri flew up above the trees, and saw something small moving amongst the truest, but was unable to see what. Noonien made his way to the sound, motioning Telloria to come along. The two followed the sound finding a small unicorn foal (Uni Picture).
A short session of 20 questions ensued until Silvermist told Telloria she could make it speak. Telloria and Noonien told her to go along and she did. Questions the now able to speak unicorn revealed she was looking for Bobby and her Fmaily, who after some more questions the group deduced was The Heroes they needed to save. The unicorn asked to accompany the group and they agreed, and Silvermist promptly cheered and landed on the unicorn’s back.
The unicorn said her name was Uni, and that Silvermane and the other unicorns did not like her, but that the Druid might be able to help. Uni’s description of the Druid consisted of “she’s nice to me”. The group then asked Uni to guide them to Druid. Nearing one of the caves away from the waterfall, several members heard a feline growl, which caused Uni to stop. She said the Druids Leopard companion was out hunting apparantly. Shortly thereafter an female elf shouted a word to the leopard and stepped into the clearing. She asked in broken English/common, “Who are you?”
Noonien explained their quest to save The Heroes. She asked who sent them, and she recognized Dungeon Master but not Lady Lyla. The Druidism introduced herself as Luthien and provided a map to the group that showed a path via a cave system to the Valley of the Beholder, where The Hall of Bones lies within. She then told the group of The Beholder and what it could do. She also told them The Heroes were trapped within the Skull in the central hall, that the spirits of the Dead heroes kept within did not rise up to defend the Hall, and that a Red Dragon dwelled in the lowest level and was in command of the evil beings in the Hall. Luthien then provided the group with food no shelter for the night.
The next morning the group ventured into the cavern system, spending several hours traveling before emerging form the caves into a desolate valley. In the distance, lying in the center, could be seen a large castle built around a human-like skull. The group found themselves standing on a sheer cliff 500’ above the valley floor. Alex conjured a 500’ long ladder and the group made their way down. Uni cowered against the cliff face, terrified of moving forward. Noonien persuaded her to join the group.
The group ventured out into the desolation. Telloria began to hear voices on the wind which Alex hen heard and began to understand they were cries for help. The group continued on, and eventually Janice heard the voices, and being a Valkyrie, was able to detect where the spirits were, telling the group the spirits were not being allowed to continue on. Finding some means of cover, the group rested for the night. Alex provided a Thaumaturgy to conceal the fire the group built for warmth as those who did not need sleep took up watch. During the watch, Doug began to hear the voices , which reminded him of the souls in Limbo, while Teri heard them and was reminded of the tortured souls in Mab’s garden in Arctis Tor, her mind also being filled with visions of Outsiders. Teri told Janice of her visions, and the two along with Doug, discussed the voices and their possibility of being ‘bait’.
The next morning the group followed the voices and made their way back towards the cliff face. Several caves marked the cliff face, Janice identifying the highest as where the voices emanated from. Alex attempted to make a ladder up to that cave only to have his spell fail half way up. Teri then flew up, landing on the ledge, securing it to a boulder and lowering it to the ground. As Teri illuminated the cave, Alex and Telloria were forced into human/elf form and Doug pulled his gun (first time ever) as he was unable to summon his axe. Silvermist was angry she could not go invisible while Uni was unable to speak. Entering the tunnel removed the magical suppression. As they continued on, Telloria slipped into the shadows as the group began to hear a male voice laughing maniacally and gloating about how the powers of Heroic Souls is even greater to power his Spellweb than the horns of unicorns.
The tunnel emerged above a chamber. Inside the chamber was a magical weblike structure of of glowing blue-green energy, with a black stone hand at each point in the web clutching a bluish glowing Crystal. An alchemist’s table sat to the right of the web and a desk with an open spell book lay to the left. In front of the web was an old man in black robes with red trim. Behind the man were 15 Huge Horse sized rats. There was also a tunnel leading form the chamber below and to the left of the one Telloria stood upon. Telloria then returned to the group and told them of what was ahead.
The group made their way back, attempting to be stealthy, and attacked the wizard and his giant rats. During the fight, the wizard threw a fireball at the group, which caused the Spellweb to flash, one of the bluish gems going dark. Combined attacks took down the wizard, the death blow dealt by Telloria’s claws, while Alex called down a large bolt of lightning which caused a huge thunder shockwave that eliminated all the rats. It also destroyed the desk, knocking the candles over, setting the spell book aflame.
